TeleSlide MultiMedia is an application server designed for teaching. This software enables the construction of full training files, from the creation of practical cases for work involving the creation of clinical case files and knowledge assessment.
The principal function of the TeleSlide MultiMedia application is the on-line uploading and sharing of image files. Teachers publish cases with a strong image component: they include macroscopic and microscopic imaging, digital slides and radiology. The objective is the capability of making these cases accessible to several groups of students in accordance with pre-determined usage and access rules. As such, learners access published content during courses, taught classes, as part of continuous monitoring and during examinations. Published case files are accessible via a university’s intranet or remotely via the Internet. This means students can work from home.
The application is fully web-based and operates with PCs, Macs and tablets It is robust and can handle several simultaneous connections to a single document.
Multiple teaching applications
The principal advantage of TeleSlide MultiMedia is the interaction the application enables between teachers and learners. Students are able to :
- make and share dynamic annotations,
- complete forms or multiple-choice questionnaires,
- provide illustrated responses via an Office document,
- work in virtual multi-head microscope mode.
With this application it is also possible to create knowledge bases with reference cases and to participate in forums or workshops with vote functionality. All these uses are possible thanks to the access provided to enriched databases and multifunctional platforms.
Teaching is much more interactive thanks to these discussion functionalities. It is now easy to share multimedia medical imaging documents for the morphology disciplines. As such, students are more involved and are able to encounter professional clinical situations.
Remote accessibility is the second great advantage of TeleSlide Multimedia. Students can access their files from home during exam revision periods, and professionals undergoing continuous training no longer need to attend university to take courses.
Universities can now offer students clinical case studies by including elements of biology, radiology imaging and pathology. Furthermore, the deployment of a solution like this optimizes teachers’ work and reduces costs related to equipment, the maintenance of premises and the production of microscopic slides. It also facilitates the organization and management of exam sessions.
TeleSlide MultiMedia is therefore a complete innovative and effective educational tool. It has numerous uses to help energize and optimize training.
An LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) Interface
The application interfaces with external university directories and learned societies in LDAP format. This means it is capable of accessing the user database of a given network without having to duplicate it. As a result, the application manages user rights in accordance with their status. Learners do not therefore have the same access authorization as teachers. Similarly, functionalities vary in accordance with educational content, the level of training/education or users’ group membership.
TeleSlide can also be installed as a library. The application is integrated with previously installed e-learning software (Learning Content Management System) and enables link-up to images. When configured in this way the application is called TeleSlide Library.
