Paris, France – 04 November 2019
AP-HP (Greater Paris University Hospitals) and TRIBVN Healthcare announced, at the annual congress of the French Society of Pathology in November 2018*, the establishment of a five-year strategic partnership to develop and implement a national platform for telepathology.
This platform, called “SOSlide” (for “Second Opinion Slide”), allows pathologists to access a network of qualified correspondents in order to obtain specialized advice quickly and without geographical constraints.
It is presented at the Carrefour pathologie congress organised in Paris from 04 to 07 November 2019.
SOSlide is a national network of second opinions in telepathology. It allows pathologists to access expert correspondents to obtain a specialized diagnostic opinion quickly and without geographical constraints. The platform is open to all French pathologists, whether they work in hospitals or in private practice.
At the heart of cancer diagnosis, SOSlide improves communication and knowledge sharing between specialists. The platform replaces traditional postal sending, which causes processing delays and risks of loss. It thus makes it possible to considerably reduce the processing time and also to keep a traceability of exchanges and samples.
Once digitized, via a slide scanner, the glass slides traditionally read under a microscope are transmitted electronically and securely to the pathologist. He can then carry out his diagnosis on his computer using an image of excellent definition, with zoom capabilities comparable to those of the microscope and at a distance from the patient’s place of care. Patients thus have additional access to specialists in their pathologies.
With a pay-per-use system, requests are billed to the requesting pathologist’s practice structure and the expertise is remunerated for the time of the professional responding to the request for an opinion. Registration on SOSlide is free via the platform (www.soslide.org) but requires the establishment of a contract between TRIBVN Healthcare and the professional’s practice structure for invoicing management.
The SOSlide Network was implemented in a context of co-development between the AP-HP teams who brought medical and organizational expertise and TRIBVN Healthcare who brought its software engineering and network. This form of co-development is exemplary in health and ensures a solution that is perfectly adapted to practice.
